I got what you paid for
I tested this kit on the Motorola Droid and here are my thoughts:
- Home charger: doesn't work. The phone started freaking out like buttons were being pressed very fast. I believe it doesn't work because this charger is only 500mA and the stock charger is 850mA.
- USB data cable: works but it's the same size as the stock cable. If you want a longer cable to plug on the stock charger, look elsewhere.
- Car charger: seems to be working but the cable is very thin compared to the others. I can't tell what is the current so I don't think I will use it.
Avoid for Droid
The plug in charger makes the phone freak out like the previous reviewer said... as if ghosts are constantly tapping on the screen opening and closing things all crazily. This is not what you want to see. The output voltage on the thing says 4.5V to 9.5V. The original Motorola charger doesn't give a range, it claims to output 5.1V, exactly 5.1V. I think that the fact that this charger has more than a factor of two error in the output voltage is a bit scary, and probably the reason that it makes the phone freak out. To be fair, the price is ridiculously low and who knew it wouldn't work. I wouldn't expect them to have tested it for this price, but I've learned my lesson. The USB cable is really really short, and I don't trust the car charger after the wall charger experience. However even if only one of the three things that came in this kit is usable, that's still not too bad for the price. Also, from comparing to the picture, and some other reviewers' descriptions, it kind of seems like everyone gets something different in the mail, so maybe it's worth the gamble. You could get lucky.
Not even worth what you pay with Droid
I've had good luck with cheap, generic chargers in the past, and was hoping this one would fit that bill for my new Motorola Droid. I was sadly let down, as each of the three cables had its own issue.
Home Charger - Phone completely freaks out when its plugged in. Don't bother trying to use it - the phone will register all kinds of presses that you never made.
USB Cable - If you just plug it in and let it sit, this will work ok - but if you attempt to use the phone, it will crash - a lot. Hard resets required.
Car Charger - "Charger" is not the correct term. More like "car battery drain slower." It will not charge the battery at all - it will slightly slow down the drain of having the phone on, but that's it.
I don't know if this product works for other devices, but for the Droid, don't waste your time. The price might tempt you to try it, but you'll be left disappointed and purchasing other chargers like I did.
